Itinerary:
Departure 8:30 a.m. We will head northeast of Huaraz. We will pass through the towns of Taricá, Jangas, Marcará, and Carhuaz (2,650 m), and then ascend the Ulta Gorge. We will make a stop at the highest trans-Andean tunnel in the world (Punta Olímpica at 4,738 m above sea level and 1,384 m long). We will appreciate the beautiful mountains surrounding us: Huascarán, Chopicalqui, Hualcán, Ulta, and also the Cancaraca and Yanaraju lagoons.
After crossing the tunnel, we will descend into the Conchucos Valley, arriving in Chacas (3,330 m). We will have lunch and visit the main square, the municipal palace, and its beautiful traditional architecture. Balconies carved by students of the Don Bosco School of Artisans of the Mato Grosso Operation, led by Father Hugo de Censi, are notable. Important works of wood carving stand out, which are later exported to Europe. We can also find other artistic works in weaving and embroidery, sculpture and painting, and restoration. We will return to Huaraz.
